THIS SATURDAY IS THE 38th ANNIVERSARY OF ROE VS. WADE, LEGALIZING ABORTION IN THIS COUNTRY. It was January 22, 1973 when the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion in this country. ‘Operation Save America’ says that since that time more than 60 million babies have been aborted.

A pledge of healthier foods at Wal-mart. First lady Michelle Obama and America’s largest grocery store have launched a program aimed at improving the nutritional content of foods at Walmart. The plan includes reducing the salt and sugar content in Walmart’s house brands by 2015, lower prices on produce and promote healthier food items.  RnR

reporting that 3 out of 4 Americans (or 72% of people) typically go to work, despite being sick. Bad news: Some 53% of workers said they got sick from a co-worker who came into the office sick. Actually, 55% of workers in the survey saying they feel guilty if they call in sick.


A NEW POLL SHOWS THAT A MAJORITY OF PEOPLE CREDIT PRAYER FOR SAVING GABRIELLE GIFFORDS LIFE. According to a Fox News poll released Thursday, about 77% of American voters said they believed that prayer literally helped the Arizona Representative survive the Tucson shooting. The 40-year-old congresswoman is expected to be moved to a rehabilitation center in Houston as early as Friday. Giffords was shot in the head January 8th while at a constituent meeting outside a Tucson grocery store. RnR

Will Highway 109 go through your neighborhood? The NC DOT has unveiled maps that show proposed routes for Highway 109 between Old Greensboro Road and the Interstate 40 / 311 interchange. You can attend two public meetings to discuss the proposed options. The first will be held on January 27th (7 p.m) at Ledford Middle School. The second meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at St. Peter’s Church & World Outreach Center.

One local dad wants a book taken out of Jamestown Middle School because he thinks that the book’s content (including the language) is too vulgar. Fox 8 reporting that Mark Faucette started reading through “Hoops”, a book that his son, Matthew age 11, checked out a book from the school's library. “Hoops” follows a teenager making life decisions as he grows up in a rough neighborhood. Mark said that he started reading the book and was appalled at its content, including references to assault on a female, some sexual content and the n-word. Jay Ratliff, nose tackle for the Dallas Cowboys and a father of two young daughters, is tackling a new problem, child sex trafficking in the U.S.  'Traffick 911' has been working to combat child sex trafficking behind the scenes during the Super Bowl.
