Police are still investigating the hit and run that killed an elderly man in Davidson County on Wednesday. 71 year old William Leonard was hit around 1:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon on Burton Road…north of Thomasville. A motorist found Leonard near his mailbox, troopers said.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call local police.

Wendy's - Arby's Group Inc. is considering selling its struggling Arby's business and concentrate more on its Wendy's hamburger chain. 1,900 employees will be affected by the closing of the American Express Call Center in Greensboro. AmEx will offer various employment options to workers in the year long shutdown (including virtural jobs or re-location). Employees will be offered a generous (16 week) severance package.  Area non-profits will be affected by the closing as well…

THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HAS VOTED TO REPEAL THE HEALTH CARE REFORM ACT SIGNED INTO LAW BY PRESIDENT OBAMA LAST MARCH. The Repeal was tops on the agenda list by Republican lawmakers after winning control of the House in last November's elections. The bill faces a tougher challenge in the Democrat-controlled Senate.


CONGRESSWOMAN GABRIELLE GIFFORDS IS EXPECTED TO BE TRANSFERRED TO A RE-HAB FACILITY IN TEXAS ON FRIDAY. Giffords is one of 13 people who were wounded in a deadly shooting spree in Tucson, Arizona two weeks ago. The shooting claimed the lives of six people. A federal grand jury has indicted the suspected gunman on charges of trying to assassinate Congresswoman Giffords.


TODAY MARKS THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF THE IRANIAN HOSTAGE CRISIS. 52 Americans were taken hostage in Tehran, Iran and held for 444 days in captivity. The hostages were released on January 20th, 1981…the same day that President Ronald Reagan was sworn into office. BTW: ABOUT A DOZEN OF THOSE HOSTAGES ARE GETTING TOGETHER LATER TODAY FOR A REUNION.


A DOCTOR IN PHILADELPHIA IS FACING SEVERAL MURDER CHARGES AND OTHER OFFENSES RELATED TO ILLEGAL, LATE-TERM ABORTIONS. In all, the doctor is accused of being responsible for the deaths of one woman and seven babies. The doctor's wife and sister-in-law were among nine other people charged in the case.


Randall Terry, the former head of the pro-life organization ‘Operation Rescue’, will challenge President Obama in the Democratic Primary next year. Terry is no longer involved with Operation Rescue, but he is still a pro-life voice for the unborn. The campaign is expected to unveil a series of emails and what it calls "lighted hearted commercials" lampooning President Obama's economic and foreign policies.
