Winter Storm Warning…Today through Tuesday afternoon

Your WBFJ Family Station Forecast: Snow likely. Temperatures staying in the low 30s.  The National Weather Service saying that the Triad could get 2 – 4 inches of snow with a glazing of ice by early Tuesday morning.

Most public and private schools have cancelled classes today.

Events Postponed:
The Blood Drive scheduled at Forbush Elementary School this afternoon has been postponed to Thursday, January 27.  Please call Forbush to set up an appointment 699-8447. The blood drive is in honor of Laurie Haley, a teacher assistant who was in an auto accident back in October.

Open House set for Tuesday morning at Redeemer School (WS) has been postponed to a later date.

The AP is reporting that Duke Energy has closed a deal to buy Progress Energy for more than $13 billion dollars. Details about the ‘all stock’ deal are still being negotiated this morning.

Doctors are still cautiously optimistic in the recovery of Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. Gifford’s was shot in the head by a gunman on Saturday during a public meeting with constituents. The gunman wounded 13 people. Six people were killed including Arizona's chief Federal judge and a 9-year old girl. More drug gang violence in Mexico over the weekend. The bodies of 15 men were found on a street outside a shopping center in Acapulco, Mexico. 14 of the 15 bodies were found headless. The victims were discovered in an area not frequented by tourists. CNN

Outdoor ice skating in downtown Greensboro continues through January 22…the day before the start of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro. http://www.piedmontwinterfest.com/     Hours: 4-9 pm Monday-Thursday, while school is in session, 4-10 pm on Friday, 11-10 pm on Saturday and 12-6 pm on Sunday. On school holidays the rink will open all day from 11-10 pm. Admission to the rink, including skates, is $8 per person. Groups of 20 or more skate for $6 per person, and on special discount days.
