A Forsyth Tech continuing education student will be seated near the first lady tonight during the State of the Union Address. Kathy Proctor, who is studying bio-technology at Forsyth Tech, met President Obama during his visit to the community college back in December. Last week, Proctor and her two twin daughters (age 18) were invited to the State of the Union Address as guests. The State of the Union address will air tonight at 9pm. (journalnow.com)

A couple has been rescued after spending a cold night lost on a hiking trail in western North Carolina. The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that Matt and Linden Jones got lost Sunday night on a trail in the Shining Rock Wilderness Area in southern Haywood County. The couple used a cell phone to call for help while sharing a sleeping bag and building a fire to stay warm.  Temperatures dropped into the 20s. The couple was found yesterday after a helicopter spotted them near a river.


NASCAR races are too long? Fox Sports chairman David Hill says he thinks NASCAR races are too long and would like to see them cut down to run during a three-hour window. Hill says that NASCAR recognizes the need to make changes to stop its current slide in both attendance and television ratings.  The Daytona 500 will air February 20th on Fox. http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/

Allan Beegle, a math teacher at Mineral Springs Middle School, died last week of a heart attack. The school informed students and parents of the passing on Monday. Mr Beegle was 61 years old Listed in his obituary this morning…
-Mr. Beegle was a popular math teacher at Bishop McGuinness High School for several years before joining the faculty of Mineral Springs Middle School in 2004.  He loved Mr. Bee Potato Chips. He was an avid golfer and animal lover. He loved West Virginia Mountaineer Football. Mr Beegle planned to retire this June, to join his wife, already retired in Arizona. In lieu of a funeral, Mr. Beegle asked that donations be made to no-kill animal shelters. A private memorial will be held for family later this year, where Mr. Beegle's ashes will be mixed with Mr. Bee Potato Chips and sprinkled on a golf course in West Virginia.

MARTIN SMITH, THE FORMER LEAD SINGER OF DELIRIOUS? HAS WRITTEN A NEW BOOK.
