Winter Weather Advisory until 11am for possible slick roads

Threat of ‘black ice’ through lunchtime. Bundle up, ‘Wind Chill’ will be a factor today.  And even some snow flurries this morning in Stokes, Surry and Wilkes Counties.


Northern Mountains:  Winter storm warning remains in effect until noon Thursday.  Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches by tomorrow morning. 


Most public and private schools have cancelled classes once again today.


A second person between the ages of 50 and 64 has died from the flu in North Carolina. On January 5th, a 15-year-old was the first reported flu death in the state. Doctors in the Triad have noticed an increase in flu patients in just the past few days. A driver may face additional charges after a passenger died in a head-on crash on Old Walkertown Road in Forsyth County yesterday around lunch time. 24 year old Brandon Eckrote was driving a PT cruiser when he lost control on snow and ice and ran into a van head-on. A passenger in the PT Cruiser, Michael Brian Stewart of Belews Creek, died because of the accident.  Winston-Salem police reported 10 accidents yesterday related to the winter weather. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-story-old-walkertown-fatal-110111,0,7410352.story

TODAY MARKS THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THAT DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI. Haitian pastors have called for a national day of prayer and fasting today, to ask God to bring spiritual healing to their nation. The capital city of Port-au-Prince is still in ruins with nearly one million Haitians still living in tent cities in and around the capital city. For the last several months, Haiti has also been dealing with a cholera outbreak that has claimed thousands of lives. (CNN / RnR)


The American Red Cross has raised $479 million dollars over the past year to help in relief efforts in Haiti. The American Red Cross and the Global Red Cross have provided medical care for over 200 thousand people since the quake.


President Obama will be travelling to Tucson, Arizona to attend a memorial service for victims of last Saturday’s deadly shooting. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who authorities said was the target of the attack, remains in critical condition. The Arizona legislature along with the governor’s signature passed a bill into law that limits how close ‘protesters’ can get to the funerals of those who lost their lives in last Saturday's deadly shooting spree in Tucson. Ted Williams, the homeless man with the golden DJ voice that has been getting so much media coverage over the past week, was detained by police on Monday. Aaron Shust is starting fresh in 2011. Aaron has signed on with a new label (Centricity Music) and should have a new CD project out this summer.  In the past year, Aaron, his wife, Sarah and their two sons, moved back to his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania…where he is currently the worship leader at the church where he grew up.

Ron Rivera is the former defensive coordinator with the San Diego Chargers. Rivera also knows what it feels like to get a Super Bowl ring…he was a linebacker with the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears.
