The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners passed a new policy last night that will allow the county to settle some damage and injury claims instead of denying them under ‘governmental immunity’. The new ruling comes weeks after Forsyth County Sheriff Bill Schatzman was in a wreck while driving his county-issued car. He admitted fault, but the drivers of the other cars still had to file claims on their own insurance. Some commissioners said recently that if a county employee is at fault in a wreck, the county should pay all expenses and not make residents file a claim. www.journalnow.com/news/2010/dec/21/WSMAIN01-forsyth-county-board-takes-step-toward-el-ar-634104/
The government will release NEW census information today. The state-by-state figures collected from the recent census should show North Carolina's population growing by well over a million people during the past 10 years. But, it may not be enough for another seat in Congress. North Carolina may miss out on gaining a 14th U.S. House seat. The state gained one extra seat during the 1990 and 2000 counts. FYI: Census officials estimated North Carolina's population last year at almost 9.4 million, compared to just over 8 million in 2000. http://www.journalnow.com/

Based on applications the city of King has received from about 80 residents, the only flags that will fly next year at the Veteran's Memorial in King will be Christian flags. Under a new city policy, enacted December 6th, (after months of debate over the Christian Flag being flown at the memorial) the city decided to let residents apply to have religious flags (including the Christian flag) flown for a week at a time at the Veteran's Memorial to honor those who served in the U.S. military. All but three of the residents who applied to have a flag flown for a week next year have asked that a Christian flag be flown. The other three asked that no flag be flown, which according to the policy is acceptable. City officials in King will conduct a lottery at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion Post 290 on South Main Street to select 52 requests for the flags to be flown at the memorial. www.journalnow.com/news/2010/dec/21/wsmain01-king-to-hold-lottery-to-pick-flags-for-ve-ar-634103/

“Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader” the third book (and movie) from the Chronicles of Narnia series written by CS Lewis opens in theaters nationwide on Friday.
***Review by Paul Asay with Plugged-in Online (from Focus on the Family)
“If The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was cautious and Prince Caspian grim, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is, quite simply, fun—a cinematic adventure that retains the spirit (both literarily and theologically) of CS Lewis' original treasure. It even…gives audiences a hint of his (Lewis’) humor. As such, (Voyage) is without question the best of the (Narnia) series so far.” Check out the Review: www.pluggedin.com/movies/intheaters/chroniclesofnarniathevoyageofthedawntreader.aspx
