Winston-Salem Police said that a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed yesterday…and a 19 year old is in custody.

The state House has tentatively approved a smoking ban inside all state government buildings. The ban would cover any building owned or leased by the state for government offices,
starting January 1, 2008. The latest ban on smoking continues a recent anti-smoking trend in North Carolina, the nation's largest producer of flue-cured tobacco.

Ernest Gallo, a pioneer and giant in the U.S. wine industry, died on Tuesday at age 97 of natural causes at his home in California. Ernest and his brother Julio Gallo worked to establish California's Sonoma County as a premier wine region.
