The Salvation Army in Winston-Salem turns 100 on Friday. U R invited.
Free ‘Box Lunches’ will be given out to the first 600 people to celebrate its 100th anniversary in Winston-Salem. Events (including the Salvation Army Brass Band) will begin at 11am this Friday at Corpening Plaza…downtown in Winston-Salem. The original Salvation Army location in Winston-Salem was at the corner of Main and Second (where the BB+T building is now).

Appalachian State National Championship Trophy Tour is coming to the Triad this weekend. (The App State ‘Mountaineer’ mascot) ‘Yosef’ and both National Championship Trophies will be making stops in Winston-Salem and Greensboro on Saturday.

The second annual Chris Paul Weekend is being planned for
September 14 thru 16 in Winston-Salem.
Family fun events during the Chris Paul Weekend will featuring a youth-service day, celebrity bowling tournament and community church service in September.
Chris Paul's C-P-3 Foundation saying that the weekend will benefit the Forsyth County Habitat for Humanity.
Chris Paul grew up here in WS, played at Wake Forest and now plays for the NBA's New Orleans Hornets.

HanesBrands Incorporated announcing yesterday that it will close its textile manufacturing plant on Stratford Road. Close to 600 employees will lose their jobs with production moving to the Caribbean and Central America.

Three people, including a Department of Motor Vehicles officer
in Winston-Salem, are in jail on charges of selling fake drivers licenses, birth certificates, passports, Social Security cards and illegal drugs to illegal immigrants in the Piedmont.
According to the DMV, Gee Holloman was based out of the Silas Creek Park office, but would often fill in at other branches and had been employeed with the department since 2003.

Crash at the Golden Arches in High Point:
Witnesses telling police that a car crashed its way through the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Eastchester Drive, in front of Oak Hollow Mall. Officers said the driver was not hurt, but drugs and alcohol was suspected.

(Reuters) -- Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry says that she was so depressed after her 1997 breakup with ex-husband and baseball star David Justice that she tried to take her own life.
In Sunday’s of Parade magazine, Berry says that during a suicide attempt
"I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming when I had an image of my mother finding me…She (her mom) sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do.
Berry credits therapy and counseling for helping her.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival begins Saturday in DC.
