Sidney Lowe, II (the son of NC State basketball coach Sidney Lowe) has been charged in connection with last weekend's dorm shooting at UNCG.
Police say Brian Patrick Martin entered Weil Hall and opened fire, shooting Raleigh freshman Stephen Cobb on Saturday.
Cobb remained in stable condition at Moses Cone Hospital.

In Manila: A busload of more than 30 preschool children and their teachers have been released after being held hostage for several hours by a man armed with guns and a grenade. The 60 year old owner of a Philippines daycare center, apparently wanted to call attention to education and housing issues in the Philippines. Ducat was taken into custody.

Satellite tracking data shows that a group of 15 British military personnel captured by Iran last Friday never strayed outside Iraqi waters. The cutoff age for children entering kindergarten in North Carolina may change. The House Education Committee has approved a bill that would push back the cut-off birth date from October 16 to August 31.
Current law allows four year olds to enter the same class as six year olds whose parents decided to delay their entry into kindergarten by a year.
Only seven states have cut-off entrance dates later than North Carolina.

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow had surgery yesterday to remove a cancerous growth attached to his liver.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Jason Ray, the former student and UNC ram mascot who was hit by a SUV near his hotel in New Jersey over the weekend. A UNC press release saying that the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly in Concord. Visitation will be Friday evening in Concord.

Paper…No Plastic?
San Francisco will be the first city in the US to ban plastic bags from large supermarkets to help promote recycling. Supermarkets and drugstores will not be allowed to offer plastic bags made from petroleum products starting in six months.
-The city's Department of the Environment saying that San Francisco uses
181 million plastic grocery bags a year.
-Experts say that the ban would save 450,000 gallons of oil a year and eliminate
1,400 tons of debris sent to land fills.
