In an effort to save money on salaries and benefits, the city of Winston-Salem is offering some employees a $20,000 cash incentive to retire by Aug. 31. The one-time payment is available only to employees who are eligible for full retirement benefits. Eligible employees have until April 17 to apply.

A happy ending for one missing 2 year old girl in Clemmons yesterday. 2-year-old Athena Hyatt wandered away from her grandmother’s house in Clemmons around 5:30 p.m. yesterday. Some lawmakers in Raleigh have introduced Senate Bill 272 “Defense of Marriage” that would let NC voters decide in November whether to amend the state constitution to define marriage as a union of one man and one woman. Forty-one states have laws defining marriage as being between one man and one woman. Officials in Raleigh may cut some $900,000 dollars that the state contributes to promoting the High Point Furniture Market. In all, North Carolina taxpayers spent more than $2.5 million to support the market last year.
