President Obama going prime-time with his State of the Union Address last night. The President painting a ‘grim’ portrait of the US economy…saying that the $787 billion dollar stimulus plan he signed last week was a first step toward recovery. The other steps he referred to were investments in areas such as education, healthcare, energy independence, and technology.

LOUISIANA GOVERNOR BOBBY JINDAL PROVIDING THE REPUBLICAN RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT OBAMA'S ADDRESS LAST NIGHT saying that Republican politicians want to partner with President Obama and other Democrats to resolve the nation's economic crisis. BUT, fellow Republicans have a responsibility to be candid and offer better ideas for a path forward.

A Turkish Airlines plane from Istanbul to Amsterdam crashed upon landing earlier this morning in Amsterdam. Dutch airport authorities report at least nine dead and 50 injured. The plane was carrying 127 passenger and seven crew members. The recession is actually causing some airlines to drop their airfares. AirTran Airways is reducing airfares to all its destinations for flights through the middle of Fall. Faced with mounting unpaid lunch charges in the economic downturn, Albuquerque Public Schools last month instituted a "cheese sandwich policy," serving the alternative meals to children whose parents fail to pick up their lunch tab. Unpaid lunches jumped to $130,000 at the end of the 2007-08 school year. The first 5 months of this school year…$140,000.
