Update: Historic Bethabara park has cancelled their annual "Apple Fest" due to wet grounds because of all of the rain the past few days.

The residents of Lake Lure are planning a memorial service for Patrick Swayze, the star of "Dirty Dancing," which was filmed in their western North Carolina community. Swayze died Monday after a 20-month fight with pancreatic cancer. He was 57. The Swayze memorial service will take place tomorrow at 7pm at Firefly Cove, a housing development that was Camp Chimney Rock when "Dirty Dancing" was filmed. The memorial service is FREE. The final episode of the “Guiding Light” will air later today on CBS. "Guiding Light” debuted on the radio on January 25, 1937. On June 30th, 1952, the radio program "Guiding Light" made the transition to television on CBS. FYI: When “Guiding Light” started on radio, the show centered around a minister who kept a ‘light’ on in his study where his parishioners would come to seek guidance. "Let's Make A Deal" hosted by Wayne Brady will appear in this time slot.

A High School football coach in Kentucky has been found NOT guilty in the heat related death of one of his players last August. Coach Jason Stinson had been charged with reckless homicide in the death of a 15-year old player. The boy collapsed during practice and passed away three days later.

A judge in Pensacola, Florida ruled that NEITHER A FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL NOR THE SCHOOL'S ATHLETIC DIRECTOR WILL BE GOING TO JAIL FOR SAYING A BLESSING OVER A MEAL. A previous court order against praying in school was issued in 2008 as a result of an agreement with the ACLU…that barred the staff of Pace High School from praying publicly at the school. If the judge had not cleared the two men in Thursday's proceedings, they could have faced six months in jail and a five thousand dollar fine.

The US House has approved a measure that would cut off federal funding to the liberal community activist group ACORN. A similar bill was passed by the Senate earlier this week. ACORN came under fire for questionable voter recruiting practices during Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Just recently, undercover filmmakers videotaped ACORN workers directing them on how to carry out various types of illegal activities.
