No charges will likely be filed in connection with the 5-year-old boy who was mauled by several dogs at his grandparent’s home last Friday afternoon. Joey Childress Jr. was severely injured with wounds to his face, neck, shoulders and chest. At last check, Joey remains in the hospital in fair condition. The City of Thomasville has been fined over $35,000 dollars for the sewage spill that dumped nearly 16 million gallons of raw sewage into Hamby Creek which flows into High Rock Lake.

A ban on plastic bottles in state landfills takes effect this Thursday, October 1st. North Carolina is the first state in the southeast to pass such a ban. The ban includes all water bottles, milk jugs, soda bottles, shampoo bottles and juice bottles. The death toll in the northern Philippines has risen to over 200. Tropical Storm Ketsana produced the worst flooding in the Philippines in more than 40 years. Nearly 1.9 million people have been displaced. Forecasters are closely monitoring another weather system that could bring still more rain to the already-flooded region
