A metal manufacturing company is bringing 45 new jobs to Mt Airy. Central States Manufacturing makes metal building products for commercial and residential customers. Gas prices continue to come down. Triple A saying that the national average price for regular unleaded has fallen…nine cents from one month ago. Last year at this time, the national average was three dollars-and-74 cents a gallon.

9 deaths have been blamed on flooding in Georgia. Numerous roads and bridges are still closed.
A ‘boil water advisory’ is still in effect in some places. Classes in three school districts are cancelled today because of flooding. The governor of Georgia has declared a state of emergency in 17 counties.

Two Triad Hospitals are taking measures to prevent the spread of the Flu. Moses Cone Health System is ‘banning’ kids younger than 18 from entering its facilities as visitors during the flu season. Last week, Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem closed the sixth floor intensive care units to visitors under the age of 18 and restricted the area to parents and primary caregivers only. Moses Cone also is urging the general public NOT to visit if they don’t feel well or have had a fever in the past 24 hours.

President Obama will deliver his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly later today. The president will lay out a new direction for American foreign policy.

Pace Airlines CEO William Rodgers was released from jail late last night after being arrested on charges of knowingly canceling health insurance for Pace employees…without providing the required 45-day notice. The Department of Insurance stating that Rodgers is charged with one count of willful failure to pay group health insurance premiums. Additional charges are pending.
Last week, Pace airlines advised the FCC it had temporarily ceased operations at its headquarters at Smith Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem. An informational meeting for Pace employees has been scheduled for next Tuesday, September 29, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Joel Coliseum. More information can be found at the NCDOI's Web site.

Reminder: Parents of sixth-graders have until Friday to get your children updated with the T-Dap vaccination. State law (which took effect last year) requires every sixth-grader entering school after August 1st or any student who turned 12 on or after that date, to receive a T-dap booster.
