A ‘Flood Watch’ continues for the central and southern mountains through this evening. Cities included: Asheville, Hendersonville and Marion.

‘International Day of Peace’
Several activities are planned this week to mark International Day of Peace, which was established by a U.N. resolution in 1981 and is celebrated each year on Sept. 21.
Today: There will be an observance from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on the steps of City Hall, at 100 N. Main Street in Winston-Salem. Also, there will be an interfaith service at Green Street United Methodist Church, 639 S. Green Street from 7 to 8 p.m. in Winston-Salem.

The Winston-Salem City Council will decide later today whether to give Billy Prim, the developer of the new downtown baseball stadium, more time to reach a financing agreement on construction. The city council could decide to withdraw its $15 million dollar investment into the stadium. No work has been done on the stadium for almost seven months while the city worked to solve financing problems with the team's owner.

Parents of sixth-graders have until Friday to get your children vaccinated before they’ll be kept out of public school. State law (which took effect last year) requires every sixth-grader entering school after August 1st or any student who turned 12 on or after that date, to receive a T-dap booster. A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving Dannon Activia and DanActive yogurt products. The lawsuit alleges that Dannon falsely advertised the health benefits of its "probiotic" yogurt and dairy products.
The company has agreed to set up a $35-million fund to reimburse consumers who bought the products. The refund program for customers who bought Activia and DanActive yogurts will pay up to $100 per customer, depending on how much yogurt each bought.

General Stanley McChrystal, the top US Commander in Afghanistan, is reportedly warning that the Allied military effort in Afghanistan will likely fail…unless more troops are not deployed within the next year. President Obama is weighing the option of sending more troops.

Potential President candidate in 20-12? Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee won a ‘straw poll’ of Conservative Voters taken at the Values Voter Summit in DC over the weekend. Huckabee won the contest with about 28% of the vote. Attendance at the Values Voter Summit (sponsored by the Family Research Council) was more than double than what the group expected.

The Giants Beat Cowboys 33-31 on a Last-second field goal. The largest regular-season crowd in NFL history (over 105,000 on hand last night) at the new home of the Cowboys.

NASCAR: Mark Martin winning in New Hampshire. 5th win of the season for the 50 year old.
