A police standoff ended around 8:30am south of Lexington (near the Linwood exit). The suspect, Arthur Duval Mims of Duncan, S.C., surrendered to authorities after a high speed chase from Charlotte to Lexington, then a standoff with police.

More woos for Walmart: A class action lawsuit, originally filed in 2001, has been given the green light to go to trial…and could affect more than a million women. The lawsuit alleges that Walmart discriminates against female employees. It is the largest class action suit in American history. A Greensboro woman was killed in a crash near Sandy Ridge Road on EB I-40 yesterday morning. Police said Melonnie Starr Johnson was driving her 2004 Chevrolet when she collided with a tractor-trailer about 7:15 a.m. on Monday. The driver of the tractor-trailer was also taken to the hospital. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A student was injured after he fell through the roof of Thomasville High School yesterday afternoon. Thomasville Police say Brian Shuler, age 17, a student at East Davidson High School, fell through the skylight at 2:10 p.m. on Monday. Police say three students were learning how to construct scaffolding and were given access to the roof of the vocational building. Shuler fell 30 feet through the skylight into a classroom full of students. Shuler suffered a broken arm and cuts to his face and arm. The student was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and is expected to be okay.

The Board of Elections has ruled that former Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege's name will remain on the ballot for the May 4th primary. Another hearing will be held on May 7 to determine if Hege's votes will count before the election is certified on May 11. A group filed a petition to get Hege's name removed from the ballot. Even though there is no law keeping a convicted felon from running for sheriff in North Carolina.

THE SUPREME COURT SAYS THAT IT WILL TAKE UP A CASE OF WHETHER STATES MAY LIMIT OR STOP THE SALE OF VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES TO MINORS. California says the court's 19-68 decision that states may restrict the sale of sexually explicit materials to minors should extend to the violent images. Other states have passed similar laws, according to the Washington Post.

OIL CONTINUES TO SPEW FROM THE FLOOR OF THE GULF OF MEXICO AFTER LAST WEEK'S MASSIVE OIL RIG EXPLOSION. Industry and government officials are scrambling to contain an expanding slick of oil off the Louisiana coast and stop the flow of oil nearly a mile beneath the surface. None of the oil spill has reached the shoreline.

If you are looking to buy a new home you have until this Friday to take advantage of tax credits for first-time and second-time buyers. First-time home buyers can receive an $8,000 dollar tax credit, and people moving into their second home receive a $6,500 dollar tax credit if they lived in their previous house for five years or more. Home buyers will need to sign a binding contract by this Friday (April 30) and then close the deal by June 30.
