A drive to school yesterday turns deadly for one of two sisters in Davidson County. 12-year-old Lindsey Taylor Hipp, of Thomasville, died after being treated for injuries she sustained in a car accident around 7:15am yesterday morning at the intersection of Smith Farm and Holly Grove road. Lindsey was airlifted to the Winston-Salem hospital after the accident. Her sister, Elizabeth, was treated at the hospital and released. Lindsey was a student at Central Davidson Middle School and Elizabeth is a student at Central Davidson High School.

A high-speed chase that started in South Carolina and turned into a standoff on Interstate 85 near Lexington ended when the suspect surrendered to police around 8:30 a.m, according to Lexington Police. The standoff ended on Interstate 85 near Belmont Road when the suspect, Arthur Duval Mims, 45, of Duncan, S.C., surrendered to police shortly after 8:30 a.m. The standoff lasted four hours before Mims surrendered peacefully. Delta Airlines is adding additional flights out of PTI. Delta will add two flights to Atlanta and one to Cincinnati in June. In August, Delta also will upgrade two of its 12 daily departures to Atlanta from regional jets to mainline jets.

If you are looking to buy a new home you have until Friday to take advantage of tax credits for first-time and second-time buyers. Home buyers will need to sign a binding contract by this Friday (April 30) and then close the deal by June 30. Starting July 1, Greensboro residents could see their water bill go up by 9%. Officials are saying that the rate increase is necessary to maintain the water treatment system. Tanglewood Park will be getting even more upgrades and additions to their new pool. Forsyth County has OK-ed a $1.75 million dollar budget for improvements at the pool…including fixing problems to the pool’s filtration system and adding even more attractions like a lazy river, a splash pool and mini golf. A family membership will run around $300 dollars a season.

EFFORTS HAVE FAILED TO CONTAIN THE FLOW OF TENS OF THOUSANDS OF GALLONS OF OIL LEAKING FROM THAT OIL WELL DEEP IN THE GULF OF MEXICO. Last night the expanding oil slick (that stretches 100 miles wide by 45 miles long) is about 20 miles off the Louisiana coast. Emergency response teams are considering a controlled burn-off of the oil on the water's surface. Crews are working to protect environmentally sensitive areas nearby in the Mississippi River delta that are home to migratory birds and a nursery for nearly a quarter of the seafood production in the continental United States.

(Harrisburg, Penn) A retired jeweler sorting through items donated to Goodwill spotted one ‘sparkling’ find: a 2.6-carat diamond and platinum ring. The anonymous donation was discovered by Barry Landis, a retired jeweler who sorts through the donated jewelry in Goodwill's Harrisburg distribution center in Pennsylvania. The ring is a two-carat European-cut diamond in the middle, with 14 smaller diamonds circling around it. "It was just mixed in with all the costume jewelry and broken chains and everything else." Goodwill said the ring has been appraised at $17,600 dollars.

A fisherman says he caught an 80 pound flathead catfish at High Rock Lake on Saturday. The fish may be a state record. The Yadkin Riverkeeper, Dean Naujoks, has been kayaking the entirety of the Yadkin River and took pictures of the large fish that he believes is at least 80 pounds. The state record is 78 pounds. The Natural Wildlife Commission has to verify the weight of the High Rock Lake fish; their results should come in the next few days.
