President Obama will make another visit to the Gulf States affected by the BP oil spill later today. The President will address the nation Tuesday night from the White House. A meeting with top BP officials is set for Wednesday. Coordination and extra fire training helped firefighters battle a tank fire at the Colonial Pipeline tank farm near PTI early Sunday morning. The fire was caused by a lightning strike shortly after midnight Saturday night. Four firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion at the scene.
The Greensboro fire department and Colonial representatives will sit down in the coming weeks for a critical analysis of all aspects of the fire and existing protocols to see how their response can be improved if it ever happens again

At least 19 people are dead and at least 1 person is still missing after massive flood waters overtook an Arkansas campground early Friday morning. Most campers were asleep when the Little Missouri River flooded, and by the time they awoke it was likely too late for many. At 2 a.m., the campground was under 4 feet of water, and by 5 a.m., it was under 23 feet of water.
Funerals for two of the victims is set for Tuesday.

Country music artist and sausage entrepreneur Jimmy Dean passed away at his home in Virginia yesterday evening. Jimmy Dean was 81. Musically, Dean is best known for his song "Big Bad John," which made it to No. 1 on both the country and pop charts in 1961 and was honored with a Grammy. Dean started the Jimmy Dean Meat Company during the late 60s…eventually selling his meat company to Sara Lee Foods in 1984. Dean was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Shades of Avatar? A small team of Pentagon officials and American geologists has discovered nearly one trillion dollars in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan. According to the New York Times, the mineral deposits include huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and lithium…a key raw material in the manufacture of batteries for laptops. An internal Pentagon memo states that Afghanistan could become the ‘Saudi Arabia of lithium’. US officials believe that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world.

“The Karate Kid” number one at the Box office over the weekend. The remake of the 1984 martial arts film starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan raking in $56 million dollars. Shrek Forever after dropping to third. The toys are back in town this coming weekend as "Toy Story 3" hits theaters nationwide.
