Hurricane Alex is slow moving, but gaining strength in the Gulf.
As of 11am…Hurricane Alex is still a Category one hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.
-Alex is the first ‘hurricane’ of the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane season. Forecasters saying that Alex should make landfall in northeastern Mexico (just south of the Texas border) later today.
-Flooding from Alex will likely impact portions of northeastern Mexico and southern Texas. Total rainfall accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected with isolated maximum amounts of 20 inches of rain possible in isolated areas.

Hurricane Alex continues to move away from the massive BP oil spill near the Louisiana coast in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Clean-up efforts have been suspended because of rough seas. The storm created 12-foot waves on Tuesday and oil-skimming ships were sent back to shore, from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. www.cnn.com/2010/US/06/30/hurricane.alex/index.html?hpt=T1
A 3-year-old boy drowned after he fell into a swimming pool yesterday morning. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, 3 year old Corey Peak wandered out of the home around 11 a.m. and ended up in the family swimming pool. Peak's mother ran to the house of a neighbor, Butch Hogan, who called 911. Randolph County EMS performed CPR on the boy before taking him to Randolph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

Church leaders in Italy will challenge a European court…ruling that crucifixes in classrooms violate students' right to freedom of religion. Seventeen judges will hear the appeal and will issue a ruling at a later date.
Pray for healing. Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, is recovering after a motorcycle accident last week. Injuries included a broken left ankle and a gash on his right forearm. Daly will be on crutches for about eight weeks. Daly will re-join the Focus on the Family daily program by broadcasting from his home for a couple of weeks. www.focusonthefamily.com
