But I’m still here, really: One man near Nashville is trying to prove he's still alive. While applying for college, he found out the government said he died last summer. 28 year old Jonathan Hostetler said that the whole “’you’re dead thing’ started out kind of funny, but now it's really starting to get aggravating." Last week, Jonathan applied to an art school and was told to qualify for financial aid. When Hostetler called the IRS office for advice, he got a surprise. The lady from the IRS snickered and informed Jonathan that, ‘according to the Social Security office, you're deceased". He did some checking, and after looking up his name on public sites linked to the Social Security death index, he found his birth date, Social Security number and birthplace listed. It also lists his death date as August 2009. For several days, Jonathan said, he tried calling the IRS and Social Security offices but kept getting a busy signal or voice mail.
His main concern right now is that his public information is listed on the Web for anyone to see. http://www.wsmv.com/news/23759997/detail.html?hpt=T2
