A volunteer at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been honored with a new Guinness World Record for the most volunteer hours worked. Don Moss was treated at the hospital in 1980 after being struck by a tractor-trailer. Doctors at the time didn't think he'd survive, but after spending three months in a coma, Moss woke up during his birthday celebration. While he was undergoing physical therapy, someone suggested that he spend some time volunteering. So, Don did. Twenty-eight years later, he works a total of 48 hours each week Monday through Thursday delivering courtesy letters to patients and helping deliver flowers when needed. He also helps lost visitors find their way. BTW: Moss has registered more than 47,000 hours of volunteer time at Baptist Hospital. http://www.wxii12.com/news/23821689/detail.html

Richard Butler wanted his girlfriend Bethany Lott to think they were just taking a scenic hike in the North Carolina Mountains. But, Richard had a secret plan. Once he and Bethany reached the top of the peak they were hiking…he planned to pull out a ring and ask her to be his bride.
However, a severe storm hit Max Patch Bald near Asheville where the Knoxville couple was hiking. A lightning bolt struck the couple. Richard and girlfriend, Bethany were knocked cold. “She didn't say anything. I turned around and she was laying a few feet away, and I crawled to her," he told reporters on Monday. Richard attempted CPR for 15 minutes and then tried to call out on her cell phone…but no signal. Richard left his fiancee lying on the hill and drove to the first home he found. A father and his son, who was home on leave from the Navy, jumped in Richard’s truck and raced back to assist Bethany. Rescuers tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Bethany. A funeral service will be held this week in Tennessee. FYI: Richard suffered third-degree burns on his feet.
