On its busy final day before a three-month recess, the Supreme Court ruled
for the first time yesterday that the Second Amendment provides all Americans a fundamental right to bear arms.
The Supreme Court was also split between liberals and conservatives in its 5-4 ruling against a Christian student group saying that the University of California's Hastings College of the Law can legally deny recognition to a Christian student group that won't let homosexuals join. The Law school said no recognized campus groups may exclude people due to religious belief or sexual orientation. The high court upheld the lower court rulings saying the Christian group's First Amendment rights of association, free speech and free exercise were not violated by the college's decision

A father and his two young sons were uninjured when their U-Haul truck crashed on I-85 in Greensboro, forcing crews to close the road for nearly two hours. The family, who is moving to Texas, was driving near mile marker 121 when a tire on the U-Haul blew out causing the truck to lose control, hit a guardrail, cross the median, land on its side and catch fire. A passerby saw the accident and helped get everyone out of the vehicle. No one was injured.

Some local fireworks displays over the 4th are in limbo? City officials in Reidsville have canceled their traditional Fourth of July fireworks display over Lake Reidsville due to budget constraints. The bill for last year's fireworks reached $10,000. This year's budget was already tight, so the city decided to eliminate the expense. The Fourth of July celebration at High Rock Lake is still on…but could end after this year unless organizers receive more sponsor money for next year's show. The annual fireworks show has been held by the High Rock Lake River Rats for the last 13 years, a group that started in Davidson County back in the mid 1980's to protect the ake environment. http://www.myfox8.com/wghp-story-high-rock-lake-fireworks-100626,0,1636256.story

Home Sweet Home…finally… for the newest member of the Duggar family. Josie, the 19th child born to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, returned to their busy house last week after spending most of the first six months of her life in a neo-natal intensive care unit where she fought for her life after being born premature. Although little Josie was released from Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock on June 3, her homecoming was delayed because 12 of her siblings got the chicken pox. Josie spent three weeks with mother (Michele) in a rental house near the hospital until the other children recovered back home with dad. Finally, last Friday, June 25, Michelle and Josie made the 200-mile road trip back home. The family, whose lives are chronicled on the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, is now settling into a routine with Josie, who has now grown to a "chunky" 9 lbs., 1 oz. Michelle says that Josie, “has a double chin now. It is so precious." www.people.com/people/article/0,,20397849,00.html
