A 52-year-old American citizen who said he was searching for Osama bin Laden was detained in Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan this week. Gary Faulkner, from California, was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books. A proposed Arizona law would deny birth certificates to children born in the US to illegal immigrant parents. The bill comes on the heels of Arizona passing the nation's toughest immigration law. Under federal law, children born in the US are automatically granted citizenship, regardless of their parents' residency status. The Arizona legislature could take up the matter in the fall

MacDill Air Force Base in Florida should be back to normal today after the base was temporarily closed yesterday…after a man and woman were taken into custody when they tried to enter the facility without proper identification. A search of their vehicle found military-style uniforms and gear and several "rifle-type" weapons.
The base is the headquarters for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake and several aftershocks rattling Southern California last night. The quake was centered 70 miles east of San Diego, California. No damage was reported

Have you seen the video of the gorilla at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro who made several attempts to escape from its enclosure…with the help of a fallen tree branch. Zoo officials closed the exhibit Sunday afternoon while workers cleared the branch -- which had fallen after winds kicked up Sunday afternoon. The exhibit remained closed Monday and may remain closed Tuesday while Zoo officials check all overhanging trees for loose limbs.
