Heat Advisories and Air Quality Alerts south and east of the Triad High temps for cities like Raleigh, Durham and Goldsboro will reach close to 100 degrees. Add in the humidity, it will ‘Feel Like” 105 degrees for a few hours this afternoon.

"Susies Law’ was signed by the Governor yesterday. The measure increases the penalties for those who abuse animals. If convicted of animal cruelty, a person could get up to 8 months in jail. Yes, the “Susie” the pit bull mix was on hand for the ceremony. (NCNN)

A woman helping to save a 3 year old child from drowning at an apartment complex pool in High Point yesterday afternoon. 3-year-old Jeremiah Warren fell into the deep end of the pool at Hunter's Point Apartments…was pulled out of the pool and given CPR. EMS workers said the child was not breathing but was given CPR for seven minutes before the child’s color came back.
Jeremiah was listed in fair condition at Brenner's Children Hospital last night.

Writer, artist and speaker Joni Eareckson Tada has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She will undergo several more tests, followed by surgery later in the week. Joni Eareckson Tada, a quadriplegic for more than 40 years, is founder of Joni and Friends International Disability Center, and has been a strong advocate for people with disabilities. (RNR)

Deadly train accident in Spain. At least 12 people were killed and several others injured when they were hit by a train in a town south of Barcelona, Spain. One official says that the travelers had gotten off a local train and were hit by an express train. Many were on way to a local festival. Three people remained in critical condition. (CNN)
