One more day of much needed rain. The sun should be out on Tuesday.
Over the weekend: Much needed rain in some areas…and no rain in others. Central North Carolina including the Triad getting lots of rain while the ground remains dry in our western counties.

New food label policy begins today. Labels on most fresh meats, along with some fruits, vegetables and other foods, will now list where the food originated. In the case of meats, the new labels will list where the animal was born, raised and slaughtered. The new policy was written by the Bush administration.

One therapy for extreme peanut allergies is still experimental but promising. Scientists from Duke Medical Center and Arkansas Children's Hospital saying that more research is needed…and should not be tried by parents on their own. This specific therapy exposes children with peanut allergies to a carefully administered small daily oral dose of peanuts…the dose is as little as 1/1000th of a peanut. www.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=625049

Successful launch of Space Shuttle Discovery last night. Discovery is carrying a crew of seven astronauts to the International Space Station…plus the final set of power-generating solar panel wings to the International Space Station.

Three foreign aid workers with ‘Doctors Without Borders’ who were abducted last Wednesday in Sudan were released on Saturday. The kidnapping occurred about a week after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the Sudanese President Omar al Bashier.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke appearing on 60 Minutes suggesting that the US recession "probably" will end this year if the government succeeds in bolstering the banking system.

Bernanke stresses the prospects for the recession ending this year and a recovery taking root next year hinge on a difficult task: getting banks to lend more freely again and getting the financial markets to work more normally. www.wxii12.com/money/18937915/detail.html

INSURANCE GIA NT A-I-G IS COMING UNDER INTENSE CRITICISM AFTER REVEALING THAT IT'S PAYING OUT some $165 MILLION DOLLARS IN EMPLOYEE BONUSES. A-I-G received more than $170 billion dollars in federal bail out money.

Actor Ron Silver, who had a recurring role as consultant Bruno Gianelli on "The West Wing," died Sunday after a two-year battle with (esophageal) cancer. Silver died in his sleep surrounded by his family. Silver was 62. Silver's politics moved from Democrat to Republican after the 9/11 terror attacks. (CNN)

According to an article in the WS Journal, Fire Ants are invading the Triad.
Fire Ants first appeared in Winston-Salem as early as the late '80s and early '90s on Hanes Mall Boulevard near Circuit City. They likely came to our area on construction equipment from South Carolina. Fire ants are already established in "quarantined” areas in southern Davidson and Randolph counties.
