Lawmakers have proposed a measure that could end the last of North Carolina's "blue laws." Legislation filed this week would allow cities and counties to open their local ABC stores on Sundays and allow restaurants and bars to serve liquor on Sundays. The News & Observer of Raleigh reporting that liquor industry analysts project the state would get at least $5.5 million in additional tax revenue. Opponents say it will take more consumption to lead to additional revenue. www.digtriad.com/news/local_state/article.aspx?storyid=121460

Of the 1.3 million legally blind people in the US…fewer than 10% actually read Braille. Also, just 10% of blind children are learning Braille…that’s according to the National Federation of the Blind. At the height of its use in the 1950s, more than half the nation's blind children were learning Braille. Today Braille is considered by many to be too difficult, too outdated, a last resort. Instead, teachers ask students to rely on audio texts, voice-recognition software or other technology. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/F/FEA_LIFESTYLES_BRAILLE_LITERACY?SITE=NCGRE&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
