Traffic Note in Greensboro: NCAA Tournament First round action going on today
at the Greensboro Coliseum. Expect heavier traffic volume before and after the games along High Point Road and Lee Street.
Nearly 3,000 students faced suspension last fall for not having the Tdap vaccination on file at school, as required by a recently enacted state law. Officials with the Guilford County Schools are trying to get the word out early for the 2009-10 year in hopes of avoiding mass suspensions because of the vaccination. Parents need to provide proof their child has received the shot by the first day of school Aug. 25.

A 4-year-old girl died early Wednesday morning at the hospital after an unspecified incident at her Caldwell Street home. The death has been ruled a homicide, though investigators are slowly releasing specific details about the incident because of an ongoing investigation.

Forget the 1950s Baby Boom. More babies were born in the US in 2007 than any other year in the nation’s history. Over 4.3 million births were reported. The numbers complied by the CDC also showed that teen birth rates and babies born to unwed moms were up too.
The Salvation Army saying that the Red Kettle campaign brought in a record breaking $130 million dollars in donations in 2008…the largest one year jump in donations since 1997. Red Kettles located at Walmart and Sam's Club stores accounted for 26% of the total amount raised.

THE U.S. ECONOMY IS SET TO GET A ONE TRILLION DOLLAR SHOT IN THE ARM. The Federal Reserve has announced a two-part plan to inject nearly one trillion dollars into the nation's financial system to help the ailing economy.
WFMY (Local Channel 2) is adding two extra channels for the NCAA tournament broadcasts. But only one of those new channels will available over the air. The other will be exclusive to Time Warner Digital Cable. Actress Natasha Richardson died Wednesday just days after suffering a head injury while on a ski trip in Quebec. A statement released by the family did not give details on the cause of death. Richardson complained that she didn't feel well about an hour after the fall. She was hospitalized on Tuesday and later flown to a hospital in New York. Paint it GREEN? One small town in California is going green to combat foreclosure blight. The town of Perris, California, located about 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles, has hired a contractor to spray-paint lawn ‘bald spots’ associated with foreclosed properties. An environmentally friendly dye will be used that lasts up to six months and is harmless to people and pets. The cost to spray-paint a lawn: $550 dollars
