The search is on for a new city manager in Greensboro after the Greensboro City Council fired City Manager Mitchell Johnson earlier in the week. Johnson will continue to work for the city until July 15, according to an agreement reached by the council.

One fatality and three others hurt yesterday after a head-on collision in Mount Airy. Highway Patrol troopers saying that Laura Seal collided with a pickup truck yesterday afternoon on Quaker Road in the Flat Rock community of Mount Airy. Seal was pronounced dead at the scene, and her 3-year-old son, Levi, was airlifted to Baptist Medical Center. THE CALIFORNIA STATE SUPREME COURT WILL HEAR ARGUMENTS TODAY ON A VOTER-APPROVED BAN ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE. State Supreme Court justices must decide if Proposition 8 is simply an amendment to the state constitution or if it is a revision of it. 'Proposition 8' won approval by California voters last November defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Former first lady Barbara Bush is recovering after open heart surgery to replace her aortic valve yesterday. The 83 year old former first lady was up and talking last night just hours after undergoing the procedure at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

A new ‘pirate’ exhibit opens this Friday at the N.C. Museum of History. "Knights of the Black Flag," traces the history of pirates from ancient Egypt and Greece to Blackbeard, who terrorized our state’s coast to today's pirates in Somalia. The exhibit will run through July.
