Prayer lawsuit in Forsyth County could be coming to an end. Prayers offered to a specific deity to start county commissioner meetings is at the heart of a lawsuit against Forsyth County. The lawsuit has dragged on since 2006. A judge could rule on the lawsuit next month. The ACLU took the case on behalf of two county residents. The Alliance Defense Fund is defending the county against the lawsuit at no charge.

A plan for dividing the Guilford County school district into four regions will get more attention before the Board of Education on Thursday. Superintendent “Mo” Green’s plan is similar to one he helped develop in Charlotte. The new structure will decentralize core school-support areas such as transportation and discipline…placing staff closer to the schools and community. The plan will have no impact on where students go to school or school board districts.

A proposal to ban smoking in most public places cleared the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Rep. Hugh Holliman (of Davidson County) the bill’s chief sponsor, said the floor vote would likely come early next week.
