The pilot of a small plane died Saturday morning after crashing his plane at a local airport in Archdale. 62 year old Donald Earl Marks, from High Point, was practicing some touch and go procedures just didn't get high enough to avoid the power lines. Product ‘pitchman’ Billy Mays, best known for his shouting to sell products like OxiClean and Orange Glo, passed away at his home early Sunday morning. Recall expanded: The JBS Swift Beef Company, based in Colorado, is expanding its voluntary recall. About 41 thousand pounds of beef product was recalled last week because of a possible E. coli contamination. www.jbsswift.com

The White House is keeping an eye on the situation in Honduras. On Sunday, the Honduran military forcibly removed the country’s president and exiled him to Costa Rica.

Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff will be sentenced today. Madoff pleaded guilty to eleven charges against him. Madoff is accused of running what may be the biggest Ponzi scheme ever seen on Wall Street, allegedly taking in as much as $65 billion dollars. BTW: A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to investors from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors rather than from any actual profit earned.

THIRD DAY will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Previous inductees include a musically diverse group of people including Ray Charles, Alan Jackson and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The 31st annual Awards Show is set to take place on September 19th in Atlanta.

Wolfpack linebacker Nate Irving was expected to undergo surgery last night after suffering a broken leg and collapsed lung in a car wreck early Sunday morning. State troopers believe that Irving may have fallen asleep at the wheel. His status for the upcoming ACC football season is still up in the air.
