Hundreds of tobacco workers from Reynolds American have traveled to Raleigh today to protest the possibility of higher cigarette taxes. The company is trying to prevent lawmakers from raising the state's excise tax on cigarettes. Governor Beverly Perdue has proposed increasing the tax by $1 per pack. Congress this year raised the federal cigarette tax by 62 cents a pack.

Will the Winston-Salem City Council dole out an additional $15.7 million dollars to help build a baseball stadium in downtown Winston-Salem? The City Council making NO decision last night. More than 200 people attended last night's meeting. Another public hearing is scheduled for 6pm Wednesday evening at City Hall. The council will again listen to residents' opinions. A vote on the deal could happen afterward.

NASA HAS RE-SCHEDULED THE LAUNCH OF SPACE SHUTTLE ENDEAVOUR FOR EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. Lift-off set for 5:40am Wednesday morning. The reason for the postponement: a hydrogen gas line leak.

Expectant mother and soon-to-be college graduate Dawn Thompson Ester thought that pains she was feeling during Friday's commencement at Columbus State University were labor pains. So, administrators moved Dawn up from #749 in the order for receiving degrees to first place in line. Governor Sarah Palin says she accepts David Letterman's apology. Letterman made an off-color joke during his show about one of Palin’s daughters last Tuesday. Palin says she hopes the apology, made by Letterman on his CBS late-night show, will help change attitudes about men who joke about the sexual exploitation of young girls.

At least 7 people have died during post-election demonstrations in Tehran…the capitol city of Iran. Hundreds-of-thousands of people have taken to the streets after this past weekend's election results. Iran's supreme spiritual leader has ordered an investigation into the election.
