The fact that texting while driving is a bad idea isn't exactly breaking news. But a new study (released Monday) reveals just how dangerous it really can be. After studying the behavior of truck drivers covering more than 6 million miles of road, the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute says people who send text messages while driving are 23 times more likely to be in a crash (or what they call a near crash event) than non-distracted drivers. In crashes or near-crashes, texting took a driver's focus away from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds--enough time, the report point out, to travel the length of a football field at 55 mph. A recent study concluding that motorists take their eyes off the road longer while texting as compared to talking or listening to their cell phones. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-10296992-94.html

How is your garden doing this year? Growing veggies in a bale of straw?
Jerry Teague of Thomasville has produced massive tomato plants without any land or a tiller. All he uses is a bale of straw. He said by rooting the tomato plants in the straw, the bale keeps 'maters from drowning in heavy rain and as long as they're kept damp, the plants get the right amount of water. The tomato vines planted in mid-May are almost nine-feet tall. The technique reportedly works for other veggies as well.
