The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina needs your help.
The shelves at the food bank are nearly empty. Second Harvest supplies food to 400 non-profit organizations in 18 counties including Forsyth, Davidson and Guilford. During the past 12 months, the organizations have distributed food to 8.9 million people.

Only five out of 20 high schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system met federal goals for progress…although overall the school system did significantly better than last year.
For the 2008-09 school year, 48 out of the 75 schools met all of their Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, goals of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

President Obama will address the nation at 8pm tonight. The President will discuss several things including the US military action in Afghanistan and a push for healthcare reform legislation.

A group of 19 pro-life Democrats and Republican members of Congress have sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stating that if the current healthcare reform legislation contains coverage for abortions…they will not vote for the healthcare deal. President Obama says that he’s avoiding the subject for now.

Despite the struggling economy, Apple has posted a quarterly profit of 1.2 billion dollars…exceeding Wall Street expectations. Apple's iPhone was a big part of the earnings success…with a 626% increase in iPhone sales.

Millions of people across Asia “in the dark” for a few minutes earlier today due to the longest solar eclipse of the 21 century. In some parts of the Asian world, the sun was completely covered by the moon for up to six and a half minutes. The East Room at the White House went a little bit country last night. Alison Krauss and Union Station, Brad Paisley and Charley Pride entertained the small crowd celebrating country music last night. FYI: Paisley and Krauss started their careers early. Krauss, who plays the fiddle, signed a record deal at 14. Paisley’s grandfather gave him a guitar when he was 8…Paisley was just 13 when he appeared on a country music show.

Kelly Katrina Hildebrandt, 20, and Kelly Carl Hildebrandt, 24, are getting married in October…after Kelly found Kelly on Facebook. Kelly Katrina was curious and bored one night last year, so she plugged her name into Facebook just to see if anyone shared it. At the time, Kelly Carl Hildebrandt, of Lubbock, Texas, was the only match. So she sent him a message. "She said 'Hi. We have the same name. Thought it was cool."
