Even with gas prices down…is the economy keeping you close to home this summer? The July 4th holiday is typically the busiest time of year for auto travel. Triple A expects 37-million travelers to take a trip 50 miles or more away from home during the Fourth of July weekend.

One Marine was killed and several others were wounded yesterday in Afghanistan. Nearly 4,000 US troops are taking part in Operation Kahn-jar (or Strike of the Sword) in southern Afghanistan. The operation is designed to separate and isolate the Taliban from the civilian population.

Four North Carolina National Guard soldiers were killed in Baghdad on the last day of regular combat operations for U.S. forces in Iraq. An I-E-D or improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle, killing the four men who were assigned to the 120th Combined Arms Battalion in Wilmington. This is the North Carolina National Guard's largest single combat loss since World War II.

The new president of Oral Roberts University is moving the school forward past all of the financial trouble and controversy. Dr. Mark Rutland left his position as president of Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida to take the reins at Oral Roberts University. The university has gone from being more than 50 million dollars in debt to now reporting a deficit of less than 700 thousand dollars.
