Surprise announcement on Friday: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will not run for re-election. Palin will resign as governor on July 26th. The FBI gave a rare response to rampant Internet rumors, saying it is not investigating Governor Palin on public corruption charges.

Two monorail trains at Walt Disney World collided early Sunday, killing a 21-year-old driver. CHINESE AUTHORITIES SAY THE DEATH TOLL FROM RIOTING IN THE WESTERN PART OF THE COUNTRY HAS RISEN TO 140. Nearly 800 other people have been injured in the violence.

A BOMB BLAST OUTSIDE OF A CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL IN SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES HAS CLAIMED THE LIVES OF AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE. At least 34 others were wounded during Sunday morning’s explosion. Local police believe Muslim extremists are responsible.

THE PLANE CARRYING THE EXILED PRESIDENT OF HONDURAS HAS BEEN PREVENTED FROM LANDING IN THE CAPITAL OF THE CENTRAL AMERICAN NATION. Honduran military troops moved trucks and other vehicles onto the runway before Manuel Zelaya's plane attempted to land Sunday evening. Zelaya was forcibly removed from Honduras last week, under orders from the nation’s Supreme Court.

An experimental surgery from China is offering hope to spina bifida patients. Spina bifida occurs early in pregnancy where the tissue surrounding the baby’s developing spinal cord does not close properly. It often results in a loss of movement, or paralysis. The hope is that surgery will solve a common complication of spina bifida: lack of bowel and bladder function. Fact: Spina bifida can be prevented 70% of the time if women take the recommended amount of folic acid.
