Christian Relief organization World Vision is increasing monthly food rations for displaced people in Sudan's South Darfur region. And in war torn northwest Pakistan, some 2 million displaced civilians are beginning to return to their homes. World Vision remains focused on the needs and safety of vulnerable children and families who have been affected by the violence. World Vision works in nearly 100 countries around the globe, combating the root causes of poverty and responding quickly when disaster strikes.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross will start paying the motel costs for the victims displaced by the fire at the Alder’s Point apartments. A fund set up by Union Baptist Church to assist with the motel bills has been exhausted. The Alder’s Point fire on July 14th displaced 97 people. Residents were told that they could be ‘homeless’ for up to 8 months until repairs on the apartments are completed. http://www.nwnc-redcross.org/

Anyone hit with flulike symptoms this summer has likely had a case of the H1N1 virus, or swine flu. But state health officials saying…don't panic. The vast majority of people who get the virus will not experience more than a moderate case of the flu…lasting two to seven days. School officials are bracing for a possible rise in Swine Flu cases with students set to start back to school within a month.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (with Ty Pennington) is returning to North Carolina. The hit ABC fix it show is soliciting nominations for a family to feature on a coming episode. Nominations can be made either by family members themselves or by someone in their community. Candidates must own the property they live in and demonstrate why they are "deserving, heroic and/or a great role model for their community." You need to include the names of all the family members, why they are worthy of a new house, recent pictures of the family, and if possible, a video. The deadline is August 7th.

JUDGE SONIA SOTOMAYOR IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO BECOMING A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Sotomayor in a 13 to six vote on Tuesday. The nomination now goes to the full Senate for a final vote next week.

Former game show host and longtime animal rights activist Bob Barker is lobbying the chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to stop displaying bears in pits and cages. The bears are used as tourist attractions in Cherokee. Barker will discuss the meeting at a news conference schedule for Wednesday morning in Asheville.
