Gas prices down slightly. The national average price for regular, unleaded fell slightly overnight to around $3.12 dollars a gallon .  A year ago, the national average was $2.65 a gallon.  The average (statewide) is $3.05 a gallon.

Peak season for flu: Doctors at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro say that they are now seeing four times as many people for flu as they were at the end of December. Ten people across the state have died of the flu so far. Fox 8 reporting that signs have been posted asking people with flu-like symptoms to not enter the hospital.


NEW RESEARCH SUGGESTS THAT INCREASED SUN EXPOSURE AND HIGHER VITAMIN D LEVELS MAY HELP PROTECT AGAINST MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS. The study was conducted by researchers in Melbourne, Australia…echoing earlier findings that MS, a disease of the brain and spinal cord, strikes with greater frequency among people who live in less sunny regions farther from the equator.  Vitamin D is an important component in a healthy immune system. For the second year in a row, even more of us watched the Super Bowl. According to The Nielsen Company, an estimated 111 million people watched Super Bowl 45 on Sunday, even more viewers than last year. That’s a new record for TV viewing in the U.S. The five most-watched TV events (in U.S.) are now "M-A-S-H" (now at #3) - seen by just under 106 million people on Feb. 28, 1983 - and the last four Super Bowls. America's largest adoption agency, Bethany Christian Services, reported a 13% increase in adoption placements from 2009 to 2010. Officials say that there has been a significant increase in the adopting of older children and an increase in adoptions from Haiti. RnR
