Monday begins Severe Weather Awareness week in North Carolina.  A statewide tornado drill is planned for Wednesday morning (at 9am)


Road Construction starting TODAY (Monday) in two separate areas of Winston-Salem:
Lyndhurst Avenue between Maplewood Avenue and Coventry Street will be closed.
Also, the intersection of Patterson Ave and East 7th Street will be closed.
These areas should be re-opened by Friday afternoon.  Detour signs will be posted.

THE KING'S SPEECH WAS THE BIG WINNNER at the OSCAR’s last night.  Colin Firth winning Best Actor in a Leading Role and the directors of The King's Speech took home the Oscar for Best Picture. The King’s Speech tells the story of England's King George the Sixth as he struggles to overcome a speech impediment.  The Social Network, Toy Story Three and Inception won Oscars.


Samaritan Ministries will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Wednesday (March 2) with a special worship service at noon at First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. A FREE soup lunch will be available 30 minutes before and after the service. River Birch Lodge is donating the soup. A ‘Love offering’ will be taken. A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Arkansas just after midnight last night. The quake's epicenter was 37 miles from Little Rock.

The United Nations voted unanimously over the weekend to impose sanctions on Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, his family and his top aids.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is meeting with officials with the European Union to discuss the ongoing political violence in Libya. Today marks the fourteenth day of protests in Libya.


THE LAST SURVIVING U.S WORLD WAR ONE VETERAN HAS PASSED AWAY. Frank Buckles was 110 when he passed away of natural causes on Sunday. According to VOA News, Buckles was just 16 when he joined the army to serve in the First World War. Buckles also served during World War Two and was a prisoner of war in the Philippines.
