Authorities issued a Silver Alert for a missing elderly man from Winston-Salem shortly after midnight Thursday. Charles Mitchell Guffey, 79, was last seen in Forsyth County at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. He was thought to be driving a tan, four-door 1997 Buick LeSabre, with N.C. license plate number VZF-1335. Authorities believe he might be traveling in or to Davie, Iredell, Stokes, Surry, Forsyth or Davidson counties.Guffey is described as a white man, standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 230 pounds. He was last seen wearing beige khaki pants, a brown long-sleeved T-shirt and beige lace-up shoes. Silver Alerts are issued when authorities believe a missing adult suffers from a cognitive impairment. Guffey has dementia, officials said. Anyone with information on Guffey's whereabouts is asked to call Winston-Salem police at 336-773-7700.

The National Weather Service expects the next three months to be drier than normal.

The Flu bug is still going around. Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro saw a record number of patients come through their emergency room Tuesday, prompting hospital officials to ask that people with flu symptoms not visit patients. State Health Director Leah Devlin saying that the flu is widespread across North Carolina.

The weather cooperated with the launch of space shuttle Atlantis yesterday afternoon. Atlantis is set to dock with the International space station tomorrow.
