February 1st makes the beginning of Black History Month. It’s also the anniversary of four North Carolina A&T students who sat down at the whites-only lunch counter at Woolworth's in Greensboro…changing history in the US.

Reynolda House Museum of American Art hosting a new exhibit that highlights art created by contemporary self-taught African American artists. “Ancestry and Innovation: African American Art” starts this Saturday and runs through April 13th. http://www.reynoldahouse.org/

Also on this date: 1949: RCA Victor introduced the 45, a smaller record with a larger hole than the long-play 33-and-a-third disc introduced earlier by Columbia Records.

1977: In Roxboro, NC: Hillside played Person. Hillside shutout Person 2-0 in history’s lowest scoring high school basketball game. Person, with a much shorter team, stalled the entire game and missed its final shot.

Computer giant Microsoft has made a $22.4 billion dollar offer for internet giant Yahoo.

Identity thieves are using the promise of federal tax rebates to trick people into handing over their personal and financial information. According to the Internal Revenue Service, scammers, claiming to be from the IRS, are contacting people by phone or e-mail asking for confidential information.The IRS said it never contacts anyone by phone or e-mail. If you receive a phony e-mail, report it by forwarding it to phishing@irs.gov. (Fox8)

Christian kid club Awana has announced a new focus on kids with a campaign called ‘Project Joseph’ to help kids, parents and churches work together to develop strong "spiritual champions" for Jesus Christ.
