State transportation officials will hold meetings in two more downtown neighborhoods this week to tell residents about the results of surveys on the Business 40 upgrade project. Officials with the Department of Transportation will be on hand to show maps and answer questions.
Meetings will take place from 6 to 8pm this week for the following areas:
...Happy Hill and the N.C. School of the Arts tonight at the William C. Sims Senior Recreation Center.
...Goler, Crystal Towers, East Winston and Skyline Village on Thursday at the Rupert Bell Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1501 Mount Zion Place.
-Pollsters have been knocking on doors in 16 neighborhoods since late October asking residents for their opinions.
-The project will include repaving a 1.1 mile section of Business 40 that runs from just west of Fourth Street to east of Church Street after removing or replacing up to 11 bridges either on or over the highway.
-Engineers are considering completely closing the stretch for 2 years to rebuild it faster or keep it partially open during repairs for at least six years.

The survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life confirms that mainline Protestant churches are in decline while non-denominational churches are gaining numbers. The survey found that about 44% of adults have either changed affiliation or cut all religious ties. One in four Americans (ages 18 to 29) claim no affiliation with a religious institution in the US. The survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life is based on interviews with more than 35,000 American adults.
