A new 7.5-mile section of the Greensboro (Western) Urban Loop will open sometime this afternoon. Watch for updates today on the digital information signs along 40-85.The latest section of the Greensboro (Western) Urban Loop runs from

Since October, pollsters have been asking Forsyth County residents whether they would prefer a full Business 40 shutdown for two years or a partial closure for more than six years. The Department of Transportation (and its hired consultants) has tallied the results of an extensive survey on the best way to rebuild the stretch of Business 40 that runs through downtown Winston-Salem. More than 12,000 “votes” in 16 core neighborhoods saying overwhelmingly to shutdown Business 40 for two years. An estimated 70,000 vehicles travel Business 40 a day.

Even though we have gotten some rain lately, every county in North Carolina remains under a severe drought or worse. The U.S. Drought Monitor report released yesterday found that 46% of the state is under exceptional drought conditions - the most severe category. The worst drought conditions stretch across the middle of the state - from Rocky Mount to Asheville to Charlotte.The Pentagon saying that it was a direct hit. The Navy successfully taking out the ailing spy satellite last night …at about 133 miles above the Pacific Ocean.

Researchers from Wake Forest / Baptist Hospital finding that the standard test for measuring blood-sugar control in diabetes patients may not be accurate for those on the machine form of dialysis. The homoglobin A1C test did not provide a true glucose control in hemodialysis patiets. The research reported in the journal ‘Kidney International’.

SPORTS: ACC: Miami upsetting Duke...96 - 95 / Carolina over State…84 - 70

NASCAR penalized 10 teams for infractions found at Daytona International Speedway. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was one of seven drivers penalized for Nationwide Series infractions. Big announcement yesterday: The Wyndham Championship is moving from Forest Oaks Country Club to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro starting this year. Forest Oaks has hosted the event since 1977.
