The cost of a first-class stamp will increase to 42 cents starting May 12. According to the U.S. Postal Service, the Forever stamp will go up at the same time. However, the Forever stamps can still be purchased for 41 cents and can be used for first-class postage even after the rate increase takes effect in May.

Representative Tom Lantos (from California) has died. He was 80 years old. Last month, Lantos announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus and would not be seeking re-election. Lantos lived through the Nazi Holocaust then immigrated to the US after World War II.

The Hollywood Writers strike could be coming to an end. Members of the Writers Guild of America will vote on the latest contract proposal today. The writers have been on strike since early November.
