ROUGH WEATHER STRIKES AGAIN - A TORNADO IS BEING BLAMED FOR THREE FATALITIES AND DOZENS OF INJURIES IN THE ARKANSAS TOWN OF MENA. The town is located in western Arkansas, near the Oklahoma border.

NO UNIFORMS FOR ASHEBORO MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. School uniforms, standard mode of dress or unified dress. A code by any name can generate mixed opinions from parents, students, teachers and administrators. After two months of consideration, Asheboro City School board members voted against instituting a formal dress policy at it's meeting Thursday night

KEEPING WATCH ON THE BIZZARE SITUATION IN THE INDIAN OCEAN =. Captain Richard Phillips apparently attempted to escape this morning by jumping off the lifeboat – he has been recaptured and continues to be held hostage by the pirates in a 28 foot lifeboat near the cargo ship. A U.S. Navy warship is on the scene and FBI negotiators are talking to the pirates.

TRAGEDY STRIKES MLB
LA ANGELS rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and 2 friends were killed by a suspected drunk driver yesterday…only hours after the 22-year old overcame major elbow surgery and made his season debut throwing 6 shutout innings against the A’s.

Gotta Love the Attitude Adjustment - An immigration reform protest jumped the border from Alamance to Guilford County Thursday. The day before, seven demonstrators were arrested after they blocked the front doors of the Alamance County Jail in Graham and refused to move. Yesterday’s protest outside the Guilford County Sheriff's office was peaceful and no one was arrested.

Former President Jimmy Carter will speak later this month at a Baptist gathering at Wake Forest University. Carter and poet Maya Angelou will speak at the Southeast regional meeting of the New Baptist Covenant, which will be held April 24 and 25 at the Winston-Salem school.

Dena Christofferson of Cheyenne sent or received about 20,000 text messages over a month and her parents plan DIDN’T cover texting…Greg Christofferson thot texting had been disabled on the phone – until he received the bill for $4,750. Dena’s phone has been taken away and she has been grounded until the end of school.

The DASH took it on the chin 5-2 in the season opener last night in Kinston…It took 10 innings, but the Hoppers went home winners 6-5 last night in Gbo.

It’s over – Wake’s James Johnson has hired an agent and declared himself eligible for this year’s NBA draft. Meanwhile, Davidson’s Stephen Curry will make his decision in the next week.

Chante Black – who played her high school ball at East Forsyth before becoming a Duke Blue Devil was the 10th pick overall yesterday in the WNBA Draft. She will play for the Connecticut Sun.
