New this morning: David Kellermann, the Acting Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Freddie Mac, was found dead this morning in an apparent suicide. Kellermann was 41 years old. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517399,00.html

The funeral for Officer Robert Staley who died in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 601 near the Davie-Rowan county line will be this morning at 11am at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. A memorial fund has been set up for the Staley family. Donations can be made at any Wachovia bank branch location.

In Raleigh, the House Education Committee approved legislation permitting school districts to start classes as early as the second Monday in August, arguing that letting local boards of education decide…is in the best interests of students. To the disappointment of the pro-life community, the nomination of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebellius to be the next Health and Human Services Secretary now goes to the full Senate. Pro-life leaders have raised concerns about Sebellius' financial and political ties to late-term abortion doctor George Tiller.

A federal court has ruled that the sole Somali 'teenage' pirate will stand trial as an adult. The young man was the only one of four pirates to have survived the U.S. Navy's rescue of American sea captain Richard Phillips who was held hostage by pirates off the coast of Somali.

President Obama appears to be leaving the door ‘open’ to the possibility of prosecuting Bush Administration officials who authorized harsh interrogation techniques for terror suspect. Last week, the White House released four Bush-era memos on controversial interrogation techniques.
