Breaking News: Mexico taking even more drastic action to stamp out a swine flu epidemic, ordering a halt to non-essential business and federal government activities, as the World Health Organization ratcheted up its pandemic alert, warning that "all of humanity" is threatened.
The Swine Flu has claimed only a confirmed eight lives in Mexico and one in the United States. Roughly 170 deaths are suspected of having been caused by the virus in Mexico. Switzerland and the Netherlands are the latest countries to report swine flu infections. European Union health ministers planned emergency talks in Luxembourg to coordinate national efforts in preventing the spread of swine flu in Europe.

About 36,000 people in the U.S. die annually from seasonal influenza, and more than 200,000 are hospitalized, according to the CDC. But in the U.S., where most swine flu cases are mild, "it's a situation where we should be cautious but not panicky," said Susan Rehm, medical director for the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.

Major Traffic Update in Greensboro: 9 to 4pm today Five streets will be closed along Wendover Avenue today as city crews work to install water lines.
