The father of the Somali teenager accused of participating in the hostage-taking of an American ship captain is saying that his son was on his first pirating mission. His mother has appealed to President Obama for his release…saying that her son was coaxed into piracy by "gangsters with money." Police have broken up a car theft ring in High Point…responsible for more than 32 vehicle break-ins. Nine teenagers, aged 16 to 19 years old all from High Point, were arrested and charged. http://www.wxii12.com/news/19228945/detail.html

Funeral Arrangements have been announced for Robert Staley who died in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 601 near the Davie-Rowan county line.
Visitation will be tonight at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
-Visitation for Military and Police only from 5-7pm
-Visitation for family and friends from 7 to 9pm
Staley’s funeral will be Wednesday @ 11am at Calvary Baptist in Winston-Salem
Bobby Staley is survived by his wife (April) and two children (Allison and Jill).

The annual day of remembering those lost in the Nazi Holocaust continues until sundown today. Part of Holocaust Memorial Day observances includes the sounding of sirens for two minutes at 10AM local time all across Israel. During that time people are urged to stop what they are doing and all traffic will come to a halt. The Nazi Holocaust is responsible for the death of nearly six million Jews during World War II.

THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS RELEASED DRAFT GUIDELINES FOR FEDERAL FUNDING OF EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH. The guidelines were released through the National Institute of Health. They allow funding for research on embryos which were created by in vitro fertilization for reproductive purposes and are no longer needed for that purpose. Back in August of 2001, President Bush imposed a ban on the federal funding of any new embryonic stem cell research.

Starting today, US Airways is offering daily non-stop flights from Charlotte to Paris. The daily flights will leave Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and land the next morning at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. The Mayflower Restaurant on Peter’s Creek Parkway is officially back open. The ‘flagship’ Mayflower first built in 1980 was destroyed in a fire back in 2006.
