Experts are cautious but still unsure just how the internet worm Conficker will affect computers that run on Microsoft. Conficker has been around since October but is poised to cause problems today…April 01st. Experts say that it may tale a week or more before the true impact of the Conficker worm is known. State lawmakers in the House are scheduled to vote on outlawing smoking in restaurants, bars and almost all workplaces today. If approved, North Carolina would become the 35th state with a smoking ban.

A ‘texting while driving’ ban has made it through a Senate judiciary committee in Raleigh. If the bill becomes law, violators would get a $100 dollar fine.

Officials with the Winston-Salem - Forsyth County Schools will likely eliminate 25 full-time positions to save money in next year's budget. Employees will be offered comparable jobs elsewhere in the system. Media clerks at all 10 regular high schools and curriculum coordinators at some elementary and middle schools would be cut under preliminary budget plans.

Thousands of protestors are demonstrating in the streets ahead of tomorrow’s G-20 economic summit in London. The BBC reporting that the protests are "unprecedented" in their scale. All police leave has been canceled and nearly five-thousand British officers are on the streets. President Obama is in London for the G-20.

The Governor has signed legislation that allows Grandfather Mountain to become North Carolina's newest state park. The state will officially purchase the land from the Hugh Morton family this spring. Morton's heirs will continue operating the Grandfather Mountain tourist attraction, including its nature center and "mile-high" swinging bridge near Boone. The 749 acres extends out into Watauga, Avery and Caldwell counties.
