Gas prices continue to rise. The Triple A says the national average price for regular unleaded has jumped 14 cents in one week. National average: $2.64 a gallon. Statewide $2.59 a gallon.

Computer maker Dell has committed to paying back $26.5 million dollars in local incentives within 30 days of closing its Forsyth County assembly plant in January. The commitment initially had been made by Dell shortly after the company said on October 7th that it would close the plant and eliminate 905 jobs.

School officials in Guilford County have given the ‘OK’ for Oak Ridge Elementary school to re-open after being closed since June. Federal Health officials have found nothing harmful to students and staff.

No release for the group of 20 ‘lifers’. In the face of outrage from victims and their families, Governor Perdue saying that she will deny the release of the 20 inmates who were originally sentenced to life in prison…until the matter is resolved in the courts. Perdue arguing that the N.C. Department of Correction has NOT have the legislative authority to apply ‘good behavior credits’ to inmates who are in prison for life.

Actress Collin Wilcox-Paxton, who starred in the movie classic "To Kill a Mockingbird," died on October 14th in Highlands, NC in the southwest mountains. Paxton was diagnosed with brain cancer back in August. She was 74. No funeral was held. Instead, the family held a service before her death.

Soupy Sales, a comedian from the 1950’s and 60’s died last night in Hospice care in New York. He was 83 years old. Sales was born Milton Supman on Jan. 8, 1926, in Franklinton, N.C.,
