Franklin Graham met with North Korea's foreign minister earlier today. Franklin Graham, who heads relief agency Samaritan's Purse, arrived in the capital city on Tuesday to deliver aid, saying he hoped his visit would "play the role of a bridge for better relations" between the U.S. and North Korea. Dr Billy Graham went to North Korea in 1992 and in 1994 at the invitation of late North Korean President Kim Il Sung, father of Kim Jong Il.

The Senate Finance Committee passed its version of a health care reform bill on Tuesday. The bill must now be merged with one passed by the Senate Health Committee before going to the full Senate.

MUD SLIDES REMAIN A CONCERN IN PARTS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.

Randy Fulton, the principal of Mineral Springs Middle School, has been named as the 2009 Wachovia Principal of the Year in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Fulton has worked for the school system for 33 years, including the past nine as principal at Mineral Springs Middle School. Fulton will now compete with other local award winners from Northwest North Carolina. One of eight regional winners will be selected as the 2009 N.C. Wachovia Principal of the Year.

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team will host a training session this Saturday morning (Oct17) at Westover Church in Greensboro. The training event is titled “Sharing Hope in Crisis.” Participants will also learn more about the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team, the nationwide crisis ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. There is no charge to attend.
FYI: The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team was developed following the attacks of September 11, 2001. The team has grown to more than 3,000 chaplains in 40 states who are specifically trained to deal with crisis situations.

A Wake Forest University student was found dead in her dorm room early yesterday morning. 21 year old Canda Kinney, of Lexington, was a senior at Wake. Wake Forest University police and Winston-Salem police are investigating her death, but don't believe it involved foul play.

The Reynolda House Museum of American Art will close during the month of January in efforts of remaining within its operating budget. The cost of operating Reynolda House varies from month to month. The museum's operating budget for the past fiscal year was $3.9 million dollars. A puppy found severely abused in a Greensboro park back in August is recovering…and has quite a few people interested in adopting her. The News & Record of Greensboro reported Tuesday that interviews will begin next week to find a home for Susie, a pit-bull mix puppy found with severe second- and third-degree burns on most of her body. Vets say Susie will need to be an inside dog and will require sunblock when she's outside. Officials say that a ‘drawing’ will likely determine who will adopt her.
